A Few Little Poems

by Ken Drummond

Well actually I didn’t write the main verse of Betty Botter--I only wrote the last two lines (in 2000)--and I didn't write Esau Wood.

Betty Botter

Betty Botter bought some butter,
But Betty Botter found her butter bitter,
So...
Betty Botter bought some better butter.

A little bit of bitter butter didn't bother Betty.
(But her better butter better not be bitter.)

Esau Wood     -learned from my father

Esau Wood would saw wood with a wood-saw,
But one day Esa Wood's wood-saw would saw no wood,
So Esau sought a saw that would saw wood,
But of all the wood-saws Esau Wood saw,
No saw would saw wood like that wood-saw Esau Wood saw would saw wood.

The Nanny Mouse   -circa 1991
Once there was a nanny mouse
Who wished to be anonymous.
The question came before the house.
The decision was unanimous:
Anon! You naughty nanny mouse.

Bike     -1963
He rode his bike with the greatest care,
Kept his eyes straight forward and his nose in the air,
But unseen things happen now and then...

Gobbage     -circa 1998
If you think I'm writing gobbage
Then just please throw me a cobbage
Or perhaps a string of soggage
And then we'll have some tea.
